Sustainable Development
Nurturing young aviation enthusiasts

HAECO Hong Kong once again played host to youngsters participating in the Cathay Pacific “I Can Fly” programme, welcoming around 180 local secondary students over three Saturdays during April and May. Launched in 2003, the programme aims to nurture a passion for aviation and a commitment to social service amongst local young people.

During the visits, participants were introduced to HAECO’s wide range of businesses and service offerings. The young visitors then joined a guided tour of the hangars to have a closer look at the airframe maintenance work processes and aircraft components. They also visited the Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Shop and Composite Shop to have a more thorough understanding of the different equipment and testing methods for NDT, as well as the specific maintenance procedures for composite components. To echo Cathay Pacific’s focus on sustainable development, they also looked at facilities and equipment contributing to environmental protection such as solar panel at mobile dock office and absorption chiller in HAECO. The visit proved to be an eye-opening experience for the young aviation enthusiasts.
