Sustainable Development
Green efforts recognised

HAECO Hong Kong has been utilising a number of technology-based solutions in optimising its business performance and contributing to sustainable development. These efforts recently earned recognition in the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) Carbon Reduction Award Scheme 2020. The scheme recognises airport business partners’ efforts in reducing carbon emissions and promoting best practice.

This year, HAECO Hong Kong was awarded “Excellent” ratings in the “Innovation Award” category for its Ground Services Equipment (GSE) Location Tracking system and its Electronic Lesser Check-Sheet (eLCS) system.

The GSE location tracking system applies long-range WAN (LoRaWAN) networking technology, using digital devices to track the precise locations of GSE around the airport. By significantly reducing time, labour and fuel costs involved in equipment redeployment, the application enhances operational efficiency and delivers numerous green benefits.

The eLCS system is an electronic task card solution for use during aircraft transit checks at HKIA. It enables engineers to create, issue and sign digital check-sheets using mobile devices - a great step forward towards paperless operations.

The company’s commitment to an absolute 26% carbon emission reduction by 2030 claimed an “Excellent” rating in the “Carbon Target Award” category. Based on this objective, HAECO Hong Kong has developed a Carbon Reduction Roadmap, targeting a 2.5% reduction each year, from a baseline measurement in 2018. In addition to reducing carbon emissions, HAECO Hong Kong has aligned with Swire Pacific’s 2030 Sustainable Development targets on waste and water reduction, to ensure it operates in an environmentally and socially responsible way.
