Carbon reduction efforts recognised

HAECO Hong Kong’s commitment to environmental protection has once again received recognition. The company has taken home three awards from the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) Carbon Reduction Award Scheme presentation ceremony, held in November last year.

Launched in 2017, the HKIA Carbon Reduction Award Scheme recognises airport business partners’ efforts to reduce carbon emissions and implement carbon reduction solutions. HAECO Hong Kong’s winning project, “Mobile equipment with PV panels and battery storage”, was rated “Excellent” in the Innovation award category, while two other projects, “Application of new air-conditioning system (Radiant Ceiling Cooling System) to reduce carbon emissions” and “LED light replacement”, were respectively rated as “Good” in the Innovation award category and Implementation award category.

Electricity consumption accounts for approximately 70% of HAECO Hong Kong’s carbon footprint. The company is dedicated to achieving higher energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions through the implementation of a variety of initiatives. For example, the replacement of hangar lighting with LEDs since 2013 has resulted in an average saving of around 1.8M kWh of energy and a reduction of 1M kg of carbon emissions annually. And by installing solar panels on mobile windscreen docks and mobile work stations, HAECO has reduced fuel and electricity consumption, cutting carbon emissions by 3,470kg per year.
