Boeing 747 50th anniversary

On 8 October, Cathay Pacific hosted a special event at HAECO Hong Kong’s Hangar 2, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Boeing 747 “Jumbo Jet”, the 40th anniversary of the introduction of Cathay’s first Boeing 747, and 30 years since the airline launched services with the iconic Boeing 747-400 aircraft.

More than 200 Cathay Pacific staff members, including senior management and pilots, enjoyed the party, held inside one of the airline’s Boeing 747-8 Freighters. The deck was decorated with photographs and ephemera charting the history of the Boeing 747 and the ambience and music made the event a memorable one.

The Boeing 747-8F is currently the world’s largest commercial air freighter and innovative technology has given the aircraft an increased payload over a longer range, meaning it offers superb operating economy. Cathay Pacific’s fleet of Boeing 747-8 freighters went into service on 1 November 2011.
