Igniting a passion for aviation in young girls

Women make up only about 6% of airline CEOs (IATA 2022), which is to say they are vastly underrepresented in the aviation industry. As a global MRO leader with a strong company culture of diversity and inclusion, HAECO is committed to enhancing female representation in our industry through targeted visits and industry events.

From 9 to 11 September, HAECO Americas participated in The First in Flight Girls in Aviation Day at Concord-Padgett Regional Airport in North Carolina, which aims to educate and enthuse young females about the dynamic world of aviation. As a sponsor, our team set up an elaborate booth showcasing the composite materials used in aircraft-related repairs, an interactive toy inspection station and a paint shop to stoke the girls’ curiosity. These exciting exhibits and activities gave participants first-hand understanding of the work of MROs, encouraging more females to consider pursuing careers in this field.

In October, HAECO Hong Kong organised an exclusive tour for secondary school girls in partnership with The Women’s Foundation. During the visit, the girls were afforded the amazing opportunity to visit our aircraft maintenance workshops and explore the different facets of MRO operations. As the students set foot inside our hangars for the first time and learned about the latest applications like drone-assisted inspections and robots, they became filled with a sense of intrigue about the endless wonders and possibilities the world of aviation holds.

HAECO is committed to nurturing the next generation of both males and females to support the sustainable development of our industry. These outreach programmes offer an excellent opportunity to inform and inspire young aviation enthusiasts, hopefully inspiring more women to build a future that will take them above the horizons.
