In March, HAECO Group’s Engine Services specialist HAESL participated in a voluntary three-month food waste recycling partnership scheme organised by the Environmental Protection Department of the Hong Kong SAR Government. Statistics show that 3,584 tons of food waste is produced in Hong Kong every day, with the commercial and industrial sector alone contributing over 1,000 tons. Striving to be a responsible corporate citizen, HAESL was determined to review its food policies by participating in the scheme – to promote better food waste management practices and to gain experience in waste source separation and recycling. HAESL successfully recycled 2,400kg of food waste in the first month by composting it to make soil conditioner, which will be used in landscaping at the company’s headquarters at Tseung Kwan O. For the future, HAESL will continue its quest for the optimal solution to minimising food waste.
